Sawako Yasue graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music. Yasue received an encouragement award in the Munich International Music Competition in 1991.
She has regularly held marimba and percussion recitals called “Prana” since 1995 and has been a member of Saito Kinen Orchestra since 1995. She performed as a timpanist with Deutsche Bachsolisten and Mito Chamber Orchestra (on European tour with Seiji Ozawa, and under the baton of Ton Koopman, etc.). Yasue has taught at Toho Gakuen since 1996. She was sent to Berlin as an overseas art trainee by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government in September 2002 and studied there for one year under Rainer Seegers, a timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
She performs percussion, marimba, and timpani as a soloist, with chamber orchestras and with orchestras in a wide range of music including baroque, contemporary works, new works, etc. Besides teaching at Toho Gakuen, Yasue is also a member of Saito Kinen Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
