Kaori KIMURA began her musical training in Tokyo and continued her studies at Paris Conservatoire National de Superieur, graduating with distinction in 1965. In 1967, she was awarded the 2nd prize of the Messiaen International Contemporary Music Competition, and afterwards started to study with Olivier Messiaen and Ivonne Loriod.
Kaori KIMURA has been frequently collaborating with well-known conductors and orchestras in Japan as well as overseas. So far she has appeared with NHK Symphony Orchestra (cond: Hirokyuki Iwaki), Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (cond: Eliahu Inbal), New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra (cond: Seiji Ozawa) and American Symphony Orchestra (cond: Gunther Schuller). She has performed numerous premieres of contemporary music and through these activities won high reputation. In 1999, the her fifth recital with 20th century music pieces was held and on these matters she was awarded the 50th Arts Encouragement Prize of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs as well as the 9th Asahi Contemporary Music Prize.
In 2002 she made three recitals with works by Messiaen, and - as a result - was honoured the 34th Suntory Music Award. In 2001 she was assigned a jury member of Long Thibaud International Competition and of Orleans (France) 20th Century Piano Music Competition in 2002.
Kaori Kimura is currently teaching at the Kurashiki Sakuyo University.
